Bath Time!

Berry Pebbles gets a bath...she is still struggling to get over her recent medical problems.  Her skin is flaking off but looking better....we have been giving her baths with a special shampoo.  Tito has worked so hard with Berry Pebbles, and been so patient, that she will actually come into the bathroom on her own AND go from sitting/standing in the tub to laying down!!!.  Amazing right?  You know me....my methods are too just make them do whatever it is they are supposed to be doing...whether they want too or not!  But my Tito is kinder and gentler and has been amazing.  At one point she was taking 7 pills a day!  She is down to 1/2 pill twice a day and another one every other day.

I have been super crazy busy.  I am teaching an on-line course this semester and at the moment I am creeping up on a grant deadline.  I have been working until 7 or 8 at night for the past couple of weeks and weekends.  Adding to the work overload, I need this Saturday off for the big Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.  Also, I can't neglect my little sister so last Friday night I took her to play Bingo! at a fundraising event for the Katie and Wil Brady Foundation.  It was basket bingo and we had a great time!!!  The best part is that she actually won!!!  The funniest part is that she won the "Save the TaTa's" basket!  It was full of breast cancer awareness and pink items!!  She was so excited and I was too.  When I took her home I was standing at the bottom of the stairs as she knocked on the front door of her apartment.  When her mom opened the front door Destiny screamed at the top of her lungs "I WON AT BINGO!" as she is holding all this breast cancer awareness stuff.  It was hilarious.  I don't want to post a pic of Destiny on the internets because she isn't my kid so I blurred her face out...so you can see the loot she won!

Political Discourse

Tito is going to attend Stephen Colbert's March to Keep Fear Alive, while I will be attending Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity, on October 30th.  This will be Tito and my second political protest in our nation's capital.  Below are a few of my faovite sign suggestions from The Huffington Post, although my favorite saying is: I won't think in your church if you don't pray in my school.

Joy in My Heart

It has been a really rough couple of weeks at work. I don't want to turn this into my "bitch about work" blog but...in a nutshell...I am having a hard time asserting myself and am fighting a never-ending battle to establish myself as independent. I am not winning and to be honest, it may not be possible where I am at now. But, this post is about the love and happiness our Berry Pebbles brings us every day. She is so damn cute and loves us too pieces. She has had some health issues lately...she is trying to bake bread in her crotch again and is on multiple medications...including an anti-fungal med, a topical wipe for her skin, a med for itch relief, and a med for an under active thyroid. We recently added a high-powered anti-biotic. The good news is that she is getting better and if the under active thyroid condition can be treated and we see improvement in her skin then all is well that ends well. You just never know with veterinary science...to say it is not exact is an understatement! But I digress...Berry Pebbles has to wear a cone. This had made me think a lot about Kanook lately...I sure miss the Big Red Dog. She was so used to that damn cone that she could get in and out of the Rodeo unaided with it on! Berry Pebbles is not that resilient so we went and got her the newest in pet cones...an inflatable airplane pillow with a velcro strap. Every time she comes trotting up to me with her goofy look on her face...made even more endearing with her lopsided snaggle tooth...it just brings joy to my heart.

I searched from some pictures of Kanook with her cone and didn't find any on this computer...but I found some good pictures!

Phobia

So...I was giggling today thinking about Tito imitating me the other night. We were enjoying the bright color box and I noticed a spider on our ceiling. Tito has become way more patient with me and my spider phobia...and he responded by calmly getting up and getting the swiffer to smoosh the spider. Only...when he went to smoosh it...it dropped to floor! When the spider had been killed and accounted for my calm response was....they are evil motherfuckers, that is what they do. And it is true! I think they drop from the ceiling as soon as they see the shadow of whatever is coming to kill them. So then Tito was immitating me saying "they are evil motherfuckers, that is what they do"...and it reminded me of Corey immitating me telling him that we had made the cottage in Chautauqua "a hostile environement and they should evacuate the premises" when talking about spiders. Geez...I really do hate those little evil motherfuckers. A couple months ago we were driving and I thought I felt my hair on my neck and when I went to push it behind my ear a spider dropped onto my leg! I yelled "motherfucker" at the top of my lungs and then hit my leg so hard I gave myself a big bruise. But that little motherfucker was toast. Oh, and Tito didn't crash the car when I yelled. He is good like that.

Who knew?  Well...I guess probably a lot of people knew...but I had no idea kitties could be that amused with bags and boxes.  No toys needed.  The kitties provided us with hours of amusement yesterday as they played, and battled, with the brown bag.

This is the orchid that my Tito got me for my birthday.  He is very optimistic because I have failed to keep anything but cacti alive...but I took these pictures yesterday so it has survived for 3 weeks!  I might give it a name if it survives another three...
